VPN Is Being Replaced by SD-WAN Networks

WAN networks have been the pillar of communication and data exchange in companies for years, especially accessing them from virtual private networks (VPN). But the pandemic accelerated the use of digital strategies and thus promoted the implementation of SD-WAN networks.

With software-defined networks, a freer concept is adopted by decoupling hardware dependencies, providing more flexible, faster and more robust services to companies. This without forgetting one of its strongest points, compatibility with the cloud, which allows employees to access their companies' corporate network from anywhere.

Protection in data packets

When migrating to the cloud and connecting remotely, a question arises: is it really secure? The answer is yes, as long as the appropriate measures are taken, such as maintaining the firewall updated, data loss protection and encryption.

Although VPN has been a standard in the business environment, this alternative is beginning to lose popularity as the means by which users connect remotely. SD-WAN offers more advanced services and integrates superior functions such as DDoS and intelligent traffic, combined with lower cost and simplicity in implementation.

All of the above does not mean that these two technologies cannot coexist. On the contrary, ways are being found to implement them jointly. The SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) architecture is a good example.

Instead of thinking about networking and security as separate problems to solve, they are now considered together and brought together for deployment in the cloud with SASE.”.

A promising future

SD-WAN It is beginning to be a fundamental part of business networks and is being updated to meet end-to-end network quality requirements and integrate new high-bandwidth and ultra-low latency technologies, thus ensuring its place in the telecommunications sector.

Companies continue to optimize the architecture of their branch and office network for cloud services, high availability and a considerable decrease in expenses. In 2021 alone it exceeded $2 billion dollars, 35% more than the previous year, demonstrating that demand for this solution is increasing.
